Alex’s eyes fluttered open as she pulled away. It was only a light, quick kiss. Nothing like the intense, heart stopping kissing they’d been doing only moments ago, but for some reason, Alex was almost dazed as she let her hand fall away from Payton’s cheek.

This was the part where Alex should cool things down. That would be the sensible thing to do. She’d already voiced her concerns. She knew she had the potential to really hurt Payton, and that was the last thing she wanted, but she was still sitting right beside her, their legs touching as Alex turned slightly to prop her elbow up against the back of the couch, her hand sliding through her own hair as she tried to make sense of all this.

Payton must have noticed the change in her demeanor. “I know I said it already...” Payton’s hand covered her own. “But I meant it. I’m a patient person. And if you don’t want to do this right now, we can wait. There really is no rush.”

“It’s not a question of what I want.” Alex brushed her thumb over Payton’s hand. “I think it’s obvious what I want. I’m just trying to do the right thing.”

“And you don’t think this is the right thing?” Payton’s voice was laced with desire, and Alex knew her body was going to win this little tug-o-war going on in her head.

There was just something about Payton. She was captivating. Maybe it was her eyes. Maybe it was her voice. It could have been her confidence. Alex didn’t know how her head could win out here.

“Because this feels pretty right to me,” Payton said, drifting closer, her lips just inches away, and Alex couldn’t resist them. A low moan escaped Payton’s lips when Alex closed the distance between them, and it was Alex who was on top of Payton this time, swinging one leg over her as they picked up where they left off, their lips parting.

Alex stopped trying to reason with herself when Payton’s tongue glided across her own. She’d spent so many years without this kind of connection, without this overwhelming feeling of lust. This wasn’t anything like those random nights in a hotel room with another closeted celebrity. This was real. This was intense. This was something that deserved a chance.

Alex broke the kiss, her thumb trailing along Payton’s lower lip as their eyes locked in a heated stare. “Come to bed with me,” Alex whispered, hardly believing the words coming out of her own mouth.

Payton’s hands fell away from Alex’s waist as she answered her with a kiss, and Alex reluctantly broke it as she pushed herself off the couch and reached for Payton’s hand.
